Buba

Andreja Peklar

Buba

Little Buba receives a letter, says goodbye to her little sister, and embarks on a journey. On this exciting and sometimes perilous adventure, she discovers new things and emotions. Driven by curiosity, she must also overcome fear and doubt. Will everything turn out all right in the end? Through her powerful visual language and with fairy-tale metaphors, Andreja Peklar brings to life the magical transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly.

The picture book highlights the small miracles of nature, and reading the fairy tale is an excellent starting point for exploring natural metamorphoses and the development of a butterfly. Since Buba’s journey is also a story of growth of every living being, the picture book encourages discussions about doubt, courage, and self-care.

ANDREJA PEKLAR is a Slovenian painter, illustrator, and writer from Kamnik, who lives and works in Ljubljana. She has been painting for as long as she can remember, inspired by her mother and grandmother, who were both talented artists. Andreja’s path to illustration took a slightly winding route; she initially studied art history and philosophy before enrolling in the Academy of fine Arts. Her illustrations adorn numerous picture books, textbooks, and magazines, but lately she has been focusing on creating her own picture books. She has so far received numerous awards and prefers to create in the evening when everything quiets down, and her inspiration usually strikes when she least expects it.
